Where does our merchandise come from?
All of our merchandise is donated by the public. We are a Section 501 (c)(3) charity and donations are tax deductible. We accept donations as outlined below, but we reserve the right to refuse any items that we cannot sell. Please read the "Thrift Store Donation Guidelines" below for more details.
While we appreciate intent of all who wish to give us items, we do find that broken, torn, stained and worn out items actually cost us time and effort to dispose of. Please use good judgment in donating to us. We have had to throw away many, many donations because they were left outside in the weather. We are happy to arrange for large donations at a mutually convenient time. Please call us at (802) 228-3663.

About the Food Shelf
Black River Good Neighbor Services’ Food Shelf is open to income-eligible residents of Ludlow, Mt. Holly, Belmont, Cavendish, Proctorsville and Plymouth. We administer U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) food distribution programs, but separate and apart from these USDA programs, we will give food to anyone who demonstrates a real need. Distribution of food is limited to any family/household once a month, but no matter what the circumstance we let no one go hungry.
We work very hard to offer variety and balance to what we distribute to food shelf clients. Many live on a fixed income and could possibly go hungry if we did not make supplemental foods available to them. From our food shelf we distribute food through the USDA’s Emergency Food Assistance Program, which provides to food items to qualified applicants each month. We distribute this food twice a month and add a substantial amount of a balanced variety of shelf stable canned and packaged food, meats or fish, and fresh produce. We also distribute food from USDA’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program.
Our Community Cares
Our food shelf works with area organizations and churches offering free community meals. Food for the meals is provided by BRGNS, while folks from the organizations and churches prepare and serve the meals.
Organizations that have offered meals include the Ludlow Fire Department, and area churches that have offered meals are the Ludlow Baptist Church, Church of the Annunciation, Holy Name of Mary Church, St. James United Methodist Church, and the United Church of Ludlow.
